Support Non-Public School Students
We need your help! We are asking for you to have your voice heard to help protect nonpublic school aid.
Governor Walz's proposed budget eliminates critical nonpublic pupil aid, which provides funding for textbooks, testing, counseling, nursing, and transportation for nonpublic school students. These cuts amount to over $50 million per year--roughly $1,080 per student--placing a great financial burden on families and potentially putting their school of choice out of reach. Nonpublic public aid ensures equal access to essential educational resources and helps families afford the best education for their children. Please, tell you state legislators to oppose these harmful cuts and protect our students. Visit www.mncatholic.org/action_23383 to send a message today. (This website will guide you through contacting your legislators--it's super easy.)
I know that many of you have already reached out to your legislators. Thank you! We need every one's voice to be heard. Our legislators need to know the impact of these cuts. At St. Francis Xavier School we fully utilize the textbook funds each year to purchase textbooks for subjects like math and Latin, but also to fund the materials for our Believe and Read (Groves) program. The elimination of transportation would mean that our students would no longer have the option to ride a school bus to and from school. This would likely eliminate attendance for many of our students. We want to make sure all students have access to a high-quality, faith-based education.
Please see the attached flyer for additional information and reach out to your legislator.
